Roger Wittenberg of Trex Co. Wins E-Chievement Award From E-Town Radio
WINCHESTER, Va., Jul 16, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Trex Company (NYSE: TWP) Executive Vice President Roger Wittenberg, has won the e-chievement Award from e-town radio for his contributions to the environment.

E-town is a non-profit weekly radio show broadcast on National Public Radio affiliates and commercial stations throughout the United States. One of the show's most popular segments has been the e-chievement Award, made possible by a grant from Whole Foods Market, a major sponsor of the show.

E-town listeners from around the country send in tales of remarkable individuals who are working hard to make a positive difference in their communities and beyond. Wittenberg invented the Trex process in 1989. Trex decking and railing is an environmentally responsible decking product that is an approximate 50-50 combination of recycled and/or reclaimed plastic and waste wood. These are materials that would normally end up in a landfill. Wittenberg estimates that Trex Co. uses approximately 200 million pounds of plastic and about the same amount of waste wood each year. Trex decking contains billions of recycled plastic grocery bags, a major litter and landfill culprit.

A listener nominated Wittenberg for the e-chievement Award after reading about Trex decking and railing in a magazine. "It's encouraging to be recognized by e-town for our contribution to the environment," said Wittenberg. "I hope it inspires other companies to achieve success while being sensitive to the needs of the earth. Trex Co. has done an amazing job of branding this alternative decking product, which also contains no toxic chemicals nor does it require chemical treatment to keep from rotting or deteriorating," said Wittenberg. Trex decking and railing is splinter-free and hassle-free for homeowners, and can be curved into unique designs. We've turned waste materials into a viable, useful product that solves many problems associated with exterior wood for homeowners."

E-town radio has a mission to produce the highest quality radio program of diverse music, insightful interviews, and compelling information. "E-town attracts a diverse audience with live performances from today's top musical performers," said Nick Forster, the show's host and producer. "It treats the listener to an hour on the air that's like no other. The conversations with authors, poets, policy makers and others are always informative, and the e-chievement Award winners are nothing short of inspirational."

To hear Roger Wittenberg's interview on e-town, tune in the week of July 24 - 30 on e-town affiliate stations across the country or check out the streaming webcast on those stations' web sites.
