Trex Company Wins Orepac's Vendor of the Year Award
WINCHESTER, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 29, 2000--Trex Company, Inc. (NYSE:TWP) today announced it has been named the Vendor of the Year by OrePac Building Products headquartered in Wilsonville, Oregon. OrePac is a premiere wholesale distributor of lumber, millwork and building materials servicing the Western United States and Pacific Rim. Trex Company, manufacturer of Trex(R) Easy Care Decking(R), the nation's leading alternative decking lumber, was chosen from an impressive list of manufacturers supplying OrePac, including Andersen Windows, Owens-Corning, Louisiana-Pacific, Certainteed and Stanley.
With annual sales exceeding $200 million, OrePac has eight distribution centers covering the West Coast. According to Doug Hart, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for OrePac, the Vendor of the Year Award recognizes exceptional achievement in the areas of product dominance, product superiority, outstanding marketing, and brand name leadership.
- Product dominance - Trex Company has captured 2/3 of the alternative decking market with $74 million in revenues in 1999.
- Product superiority - Trex decking is preferred by contractors because it is easy to work with, requires no special tools or fasteners and is available in regular lumber dimensions. It offers homeowners long-lasting good looks and performance.
- Superior marketing and brand name leadership - Trex Co. has a multi-million dollar advertising campaign that generated 146,000 inquiries to the 1-800-BUY-TREX telephone number in 1999 and a strong public relations program that reached 182 million consumers through print and television coverage. In 1999, the Trex website had 12 million hits, an 800% increase versus the previous year.
Kevin Sausker, Western Area Sales Manager, and Jennifer Siebenlist, Northwest Sales Representative for Trex Company, accepted the OrePac Vendor of the Year Award. Sausker said, "This award has special meaning to Trex Company because it recognizes our commitment to our distributors. It's also an honor for us to have OrePac, a highly respected distributor, reaffirm that not only is Trex decking the leader in the decking category, but it is also becoming a top brand in the entire building products industry."
OrePac's Doug Hart added that the demand for Trex decking is extremely high. He praised the Trex Company for opening a 160,000 square ft. manufacturing facility in Fernley, Nevada which came on stream two months ahead of schedule. The new plant complements the existing Trex Company facility in Winchester, Virginia.
