Trex - R - Wood-Polymer Lumber Selected for Championship Bobsled and Luge Track
The walkways along the track and the protective covering over each turn are made with Trex Company's (NYSE: TWP) Trex(R) Wood-Polymer(TM) lumber, a wood-plastic composite that resists moisture, sunlight and insects to prevent rotting, splintering and cracking. These are the same properties that make Trex an ideal choice for your home's decking and railing.
The Trex walkways run along side the bobsled and luge track from top to bottom. Each turn of the track has a Trex covering to protect the ice from the intense sun and possibly keep an errant bobsled from leaving the track. The corners of the track are the most vulnerable to the sun's rays.
The bobsled and luge track was constructed more than four years ago in Park City, Utah. "We are proud that Trex was chosen for this unique, demanding and important project," said Bret Nagle of Burton Lumber in Salt Lake City, the supplier of Trex to the bobsled track. "If they would have used the cedar that was originally specified for the project, they would have had to replace it by now."
Trex decking and railing is the preferred brand of decking according to readership surveys by three leading building and remodeling trade magazines. In addition to the bobsled and luge track, Trex decking has held up in other punishing environments, including walkways in the Florida Everglades, boardwalks along the New Jersey seashore, and trails at Mt. Rushmore.
Trex Company is the nation's largest manufacturer of non-wood decking, which is marketed under the brand name Trex(R). Trex Wood-Polymer(TM) lumber offers an attractive appearance and the workability of wood without the ongoing need for protective sealants or repairs. Trex decking is manufactured in a proprietary process that combines waste wood fibers and reclaimed polyethylene and is used primarily for residential and commercial decking. The Company sells its products through 88 wholesale distribution locations, which in turn sell Trex decking to approximately 2,900 independent contractor-oriented retailer lumberyards across the United States.
