Trex Decking Is Preferred Brand According to Professional Builder and Professional Remodeler 2001 Brand Surveys

WINCHESTER, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 2001--Trex Company, Inc. (NYSE: TWP), manufacturer of Trex(R) decking emerged as the "Preferred Brand" of decking in two separate brand studies conducted by Professional Builder and Professional Remodeler Magazines.

Trex decking topped the list in all three sections of the decking category in both studies, which asked about brand awareness, usage (currently or within the past 12 months) and the most preferred brand. Published by Cahners Business Information, each magazine surveyed a random sample of their readership, with 2,751 usable returns for Professional Builder and 829 for Professional Remodeler.

"To be singled out by the readers of two leading building industry magazines is monumental for us," said Andy Ferrari, executive vice president of marketing and business development at Trex Company. "We are especially proud to be named as the most preferred brand by professional builders and remodelers. This tells us that not only have we built a successful brand across the industry, but builders and remodelers are experiencing the advantages of Trex decking."

Trex decking also led each section of the two studies by wide margins, for example in the Professional Remodeler study, 49.2% of respondents preferred Trex, compared to the second brand named which came in at 11.9%.

Made with recycled and reclaimed plastic and waste wood, Trex decking is a solution to rotting, cracking and insect damage. It is splinter-free and requires no stains or sealants for protection, though it accepts paint and stain very well. Trex decking requires no special tools or fasteners and is available in solid lumber profiles. Contractors are limited only by their imaginations and can create unique curves and angles not possible with other decking lumber.

Trex Company offers valuable programs for builders and remodelers. TrexPro(TM) is a program that matches experienced Trex contractors with interested homeowners after meeting the requirements of the program. For builders, Trex Company offers the Model Home Program, which offers rebate incentives for building Trex decks on model homes.

Trex Company is the nation's largest manufacturer of non-wood decking, which is marketed under the brand name Trex(R). Trex Wood-Polymer(TM) lumber offers an attractive appearance and the workability of wood without the ongoing need for protective sealants or repairs. Trex decking is manufactured in a proprietary process that combines waste wood fibers and reclaimed polyethylene and is used primarily for residential and commercial decking. The Company sells its products through 91 wholesale distribution locations, which in turn sell Trex decking to approximately 2,900 independent contractor-oriented retailer lumberyards across the United States.
