Trex Decking Named Brand Leader by Remodeling Magazine
WINCHESTER, Va., Aug 9, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Trex(R) Company, Inc. (NYSE: TWP), manufacturer of Trex(R) Easy Care Decking(R), has swept the decking category of Remodeling Magazine's 2001 Brand Leader survey as the brand most heard of, used in the past two years and used most overall.

The survey comprised 4,800 Remodeling readers of which 43% responded.

This latest accolade marks one of many categories in which Trex Company has achieved noteworthy recognition in the last twelve months. The combination of Trex Company's high ranking in this survey and various product awards signifies excellence among three key determinants of business success: product excellence, advertising effectiveness and market dominance.

"The results of the Remodeling brand leader study are very gratifying," said Andy Ferrari, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Trex Company. "It shows that we've successfully built a brand that leads the entire category as the most recognized name in decking. And, it demonstrates that the numerous advantages of Trex decking are winning over remodeling professionals across North America."

Made with recycled and reclaimed plastic and waste wood, Trex decking is a solution to rotting, cracking and insect damage. It is splinter-free and requires no stains or sealants for protection, though it accepts paint and stain very well. During the past year, the company added a new color called Madeira, and a new Trex(R) RailPost(TM), which extends the benefits of Trex to the entire railing system.

Trex decking requires no special tools or fasteners and is available in solid lumber profiles. Contractors are limited only by their imaginations and can create unique curves and angles not possible with other decking lumber.

Trex Company offers two valuable programs for remodelers. The Trex Builders Club(TM) is an incentive program that rewards Trex deck builders with merchandise and advertising for every Trex deck they build. The TrexPro(TM) program matches experienced Trex contractors with interested homeowners. Remodelers can find product, installation, and dealer information on Trex Company's popular Web site at www.trex.com, which last year had more than 20 million web hits.

Trex Company is the nation's largest manufacturer of non-wood decking, which is marketed under the brand name Trex(R). Trex Wood-Polymer(TM) lumber offers an attractive appearance and the workability of wood without the ongoing need for protective sealants or repairs. Trex decking is manufactured in a proprietary process that combines waste wood fibers and reclaimed polyethylene and is used primarily for residential and commercial decking. The Company sells its products through 87 wholesale distribution locations, which in turn sell Trex decking to approximately 2,900 independent contractor-oriented retailer lumberyards across the United States.
