Trex Company Named ''Hot Growth Company'' by BusinessWeek
WINCHESTER, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 2, 2005--Trex Company, Inc. (NYSE: TWP) is the only building products manufacturer chosen for BusinessWeek's "Hot Growth" List of the 100 Best Small Companies, ranking #85. According to BusinessWeek, talent, teamwork, and creativity powered BusinessWeek's Hot Growth stars of 2005. BusinessWeek credits small companies with being a prime source of innovation and boosting the sluggish economy by hooking consumers on their distinctive goods and services.
The success of Trex decking and railing reflects this trend, according to Robert Matheny, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Trex Company. "It's a tremendous honor to be recognized again with other fast-growing companies," he said. "Our products offer very distinctive advantages for homeowners who want to improve and customize their outdoor living space."
Matheny explained that homeowners are seeking durable and attractive decking and railing products that allow them great flexibility in creating their space while requiring substantially less maintenance. This year, Trex expanded its product line to include Trex Brasilia(TM), a premium deck line with a rainforest-look. Conceived using a patent pending extrusion process, Trex Brasilia offers the distinctive look of tropical hardwoods without the high installation costs and ongoing maintenance requirements associated with rainforest timbers.
BusinessWeek's list of "super achievers" includes 17 companies focused on health-related needs, 13 retail firms and 12 technology hardware and equipment-making companies. Trex Company, which was also selected by BusinessWeek as a Hot Growth Company in 2000, is the lone building products manufacturer. To generate the Hot Growth list, BusinessWeek sifts through a database of 2,200 publicly traded companies with revenues of $50 million to $1.5 billion a year. The companies are then ranked by sales and earnings growth, as well as return on capital over three years. Contenders must have a market cap of $25 million or more and a stock that trades for at least $5 per share.
