Trex Company Sponsors Southern Living 2011 Idea House
High-performance Trex Transcend(R) Decking, Trex Deck Lighting(TM) and Trex Outdoor Furniture(TM) Showcased at European-Inspired Texas Dwelling

WINCHESTER, Va., Jun 07, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Trex Company, the world's largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing, is a national sponsor of the 2011 Southern Living Texas Idea House. Located in the Escondido Golf Preserve approximately 50 miles northwest of Austin, Texas, the custom-designed and fully furnished home blends the rugged, regional style of the Texas Hill Country with classic Old World architectural elements. The home will be open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from July 4 through October 2.

This year, the Southern Living Idea House boasts several expansive outdoor living spaces featuring a variety of beautiful and innovative Trex(R) products. The sunbathing deck and dock are both constructed of Trex Transcend, the industry's number one brand of high-performance decking, in a new Rope Swing color that complements the warm hue and rich texture of Texas sandstone and weathered wood. This soft beige shade lends a cool and relaxed atmosphere to the home's exterior, allowing guests to comfortably take advantage of the outdoor living spaces during hotter afternoon hours.

Stylish and durable arm chairs, ottomans and side tables from the Trex Outdoor Furniture Rockport Collection create a comfortable spot for relaxation on the deck, which extends over the beach for scenic views of the lake. Adding both safety and ambience, LED dimmable Trex Deck Lighting is installed throughout the grounds of the home to extend the time guests will be able to spend relaxing outdoors.

"Like the Southern Living Idea House, Trex draws inspiration from the great outdoors when we create durable, eco-friendly and beautiful products that elevate the standard for outdoor living," said Ron Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex. "The combination of performance and aesthetics in all Trex products is unmatched, which means the home's outdoor living spaces will remain looking 'like new' for years to come."

For a creative twist, the designers also chose to install Trex Transcend decking on all three surfaces of the home's boathouse. While the floors feature Transcend in Rope Swing, the walls and ceiling are outfitted with alternating boards of Gravel Path (a pristine grey) and Tree House (a light brown).

"The Idea House showcases the importance of designing livable and stylish outdoor rooms - which makes Trex an ideal choice for the home's exterior," said Frank Craige, homes programs manager for Southern Living. "Not only are Trex products tough-as-nails, but they also inspire fun and customized designs. The imaginative use of materials in our boathouse proves that Trex isn't just for decks, and also infuses the space with an upbeat cool factor. We're confident this will motivate visitors to create their own beautiful and low-maintenance outdoor living spaces."

The Idea House is expected to draw as many as 20,000 visitors from across the country, and is scheduled to be featured in the September 2011 issue of Southern Living.
