Trex Company Sponsors 2011 HGTV Green Home
High-performance Trex Transcend(R) Decking Showcased at Eco-friendly Denver Dwelling

WINCHESTER, Va., Apr 04, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Trex Company, the world's largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing, is a primary sponsor of the fourth annual HGTV Green Home. Located in the sustainable neighborhood of Stapleton in northwest Denver, the modern-prairie style structure is both custom-designed and fully furnished and features the latest environmentally friendly products and technologies. The home will be open for public tours from May 5 through July 3.

The 2,400-square-foot home features an expansive outdoor living space with a deck constructed of Trex Transcend(R), the industry's number one brand of high-performance decking. Guaranteed to outperform wood, composite and PVC for decades, Transcend offers a superior combination of performance and aesthetics. It resists stains, scratches and mold and features a distinctive and natural-looking, high-definition wood grain pattern in rich, deep colors. Transcend decking also contains 95 percent recycled content, contributing to the LEED points of any residential or commercial structure.

In fact, the HGTV Green Home recently received a Platinum LEED certification, the highest rating a home can earn with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. This certification indicates that the home meets rigorous standards for sustainable site development, water conservation, energy efficiency and materials selection - among other qualifying factors.

"The HGTV Green Home allows Trex to support a neighborhood committed to environmentally friendly living and to educate individuals about how they can incorporate sustainability into their daily lives," said Ron Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex. "Like the home itself, Trex proves that you don't have to be 'extreme to be green.' Our materials not only offer a superior combination of performance and aesthetics, but also an easy way to practice eco-consciousness in your own backyard."

Built on green principles and values, Trex products offer a truly environmentally responsible choice to consumers. As one of the largest plastic bag recycler in the United States, Trex turns 1.5 billion recycled plastic bags into eco-friendly outdoor living products each year. In addition, no trees are cut down to make Trex products. Trex salvages and keeps more than 600 million pounds of plastic and wood scrap out of landfills each year. Nearly all the ingredients used to create Trex composite products are being reused by the company - which, in turn, saves waste from building up in landfills and eliminates the need to harvest new materials.

"The design of the HGTV Green Home embodies smart living, and combines innovation with sustainability. With a high percentage of recycled content, Trex materials are an ideal choice for an outdoor living space," said Jack Thomasson, HGTV Green Home House Planner. "The superior durability of Trex Transcend decking will stand up to the harsh Denver climate and its low-maintenance requirements ensure the eventual homeowners will spend time relaxing outside - rather than sanding, staining and cleaning."

One lucky entrant will win the HGTV Green Home this summer, along with a grand prize package that includes $100,000 and a 2011 GMC(R) Terrain(R). Last year, the giveaway generated nearly 18 million entries and thousands of people toured the home during the two-month period it was open to the public.
